Economy Minister: Georgia Remains Committed to European Integration Path

Georgia’s Minister of Economy, Giorgi Kobulia stated that the country stays committed to the European integration path and that it is "an irreversible process."

“This is the irreversible and conscious choice of the Georgian people, as we all understand that it is the best way to guarantee democracy, peace and prosperity in our country and region as a whole,” Kobulia said at the Georgia-EU Business Forum, which was also attended by Cecilia Malmström, the European Commissioner for Trade.

The Minister introduced the main aspects and objectives of the economic policy of Georgia to the European Commissioner and the Council members. He noted that Georgia recognizes the Association Agreement with the European Union as the cornerstone of the political union and economic integration, and that the country aims to get maximum benefits from all the advantages of this framework.

“Effective implementation of the Association Agreement (AA), including the DCFTA, remains the top priority for the Georgian government. We are committed to further intensifying our reform efforts and dedicate maximum resources to ensuring the successful implementation of all undertaken commitments,” he added.

Kobulia noted that the economic vision of the government and the business climate model is wholly based on being open and advantageous for FDI, maintaining security and predictability of political environment and moving towards a technology and knowledge-driven economy.

He also informed the Commissioner about the ongoing and already implemented reforms in the country.

“Together with these reforms, the Government of Georgia has prioritized the development of the small and medium-sized enterprises as we expect this to be the main source of private sector growth, jobs creation and innovation,” he said.
