Rare Giant Turtle Found in Poti

A rare giant turtle was found in Poti, a seaside town on Georgia’s Black Sea coast.

Normally found in the Mediterranean, the turtle is known as a loggerhead sea turtle or Caretta Caretta and normally weighs around 140kg. Some loggerheads can even weigh over 450kg.

Georgia’s National Environmental Agency reported that the turtle requires special care and was therefore taken to the aquarium at the Paragraph Resort & Spa Shekvetili hotel in Shekvetili.

The International Union for The Conservation of Nature considers loggerheads to be a vulnerable animal. The turtle will be released back to its natural habitat when it fully recovers.
