Revenue Service Hosts the Working Meeting of CAREC Project
On March 25, within the framework of the project ‘Modernizing Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Measures to Facilitate Trade’, with the support of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia and funding of Asian Development Bank (ADB), the working meeting was held in Courtyard Marriott Hotel.
Meeting, attended by the representatives of the CAREC countries, including: Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kirgizstan, Mongolia, Afghanistan, Pakistan and China was opened by Giorgi Kobeshavidze, Deputy Head of the International Department of the Revenue Service and Yesim Elhan-Kayalar, ADB Country Director for Georgia.
The representative of the Revenue Service delivered a thorough presentation regarding the reforms and successes achieved in the sphere of sanitary, phytosanitary and veterinary border control to the audience.
The major aim of the given meeting is to share the experience and novelties regarding the harmful organisms in the phytosanitary direction and work out new concept, which will contribute to the facilitation of trade in the region and protect the country of the spread of harmful organisms.
Within the scope of the CAREC project, on March 27, the participants traveled to the Red Bridge Customs Crossing Point (CCP) and observed the procedures of the sanitary, phytosanitary and veterinary border control on site.
Along with the representatives of the Revenue Service, there are employees of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the National Food Agency involved in the CAREC project.
