PM on Monitoring of Water Quality and Lead Level in Children
The Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze held a meeting of the Intersectoral Coordination Council earlier today, where the issues regarding the monitoring of lead levels in children and water quality were covered.
At the meeting, Bakhtadze noted that according to the study carried out by the member agencies of the Coordination Council, the investments allocated by the government have contributed to the improvement of the water quality in particular townsof the country, however, it still remains a major challenge.
“The agencies of the Coordination Council were already assigned to study the quality of level throughout Georgia. Apparently, our investments have brought about improvements in particular towns, though the inadequacy of water quality remains a serious challenge which requires more active steps on our part,” stated the Head of the Government.
The Prime Minister strongly accentuated the significance of the problem of lead levels among children and spoke about the crucial importance of applying certain measures for its eradication.
"I am aware of the numerous measures taken and international projects implemented in this direction. Naturally, we must focus on the recommendations of the World Health Organization, and make use of the best practices accumulated in the countries of the West," said Bakhtadze.
The Coordination Council is working on environmental issues under the 2018-2022 National Environment and Healthcare Action Plan.
