Jack Shepherd to Be Extradited to the UK

Jack Shepherd will leave Georgia and return to the UK having agreed to his extradition.

Shepherd fled the UK in March 2018 before his trial for the manslaughter of Charlotte Brown who died in a speedboat crash on the River Thames in London. Shepherd and Brown had met online and were on a first date when the incident happened. Shepherd had taken Brown for dinner at the Shard before taking her on his rented speed boat.

Shepherd was found guilty of manslaughter by gross negligence in July 2018 and sentenced to 6 years in prison.

He is also accused of causing grievous bodily harm with intent in an incident in Devon in March 2018, shortly before he fled.

Whilst on the run, Shepherd spent months hiding in Tbilisi before finally handing himself over to police.

Shepherd agreed to be extradited in a court hearing in Tbilisi today. However, his defence lawyer Mariam Kublashvili told media that he fears for his safety in the UK.

She demanded that provisions be made for Shepherd’s safety, including “24-hour video and audio control when he is in his prison cell.”

The only reason that he agrees to his extradition is to be closer to his family, she also affirmed.

The dates of his extradition and appeal hearing are yet to be confirmed.
