Police in Tbilisi Arrest Azerbaijani Citizen Wanted by Interpol
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced that police detained an Azerbaijani citizen in Tbilisi who is wanted by Interpol.
After a joint search and investigation between the National Central Bureau of Interpol and Georgian police, the citizen, born in 1963, was arrested near Holiday Inn hotel in central Tbilisi.
The citizen has been on the Baku Interpol wanted list since February 2019. The citizen, referred to as AA, is accused of committing fraud resulting in a large amount of material damage under Article 178.3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan. If found guilty, the citizen will face 5 to 10 years in prison.
Currently, pre-extradition procedures are underway to extradite the citizen to Azerbaijan.
