Another Worker Dies in Chiatura

Another death has occurred in Georgia's mining industry, this time in connection with the construction of new cable cars, the towers of which can be seen throughout the Imeretian town of Chiatura, best known for its black river and manganese mines.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed a man's death on Saturday afternoon. He is rumored to have been killed by electric shock.

An investigation has been opened under Paragraph II, Article 240 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, involving violation of safety rules during mining construction and other works.

This is one of many deaths associated with this sector in recent years and comes amidst growing concerns in society and official circles of the upholding of adequate safety standards.
