Occupying Forces Illegally Detain Georgian Citizen Near Abkhazia

Occupying forces have illegally detained Georgian citizen Gela Rostobaia for “illegally crossing” the so-called border yesterday.

Rostobaia, 39, was detained near Georgia’s illegally occupied zone Abkhazia in the village of Shamgona whilst fishing in the Enguri River.

“We live near the border and don’t know the situation here...Now I know that he is in jail, but I don’t know when he will be released,” his father Yanu Rostabaia told Interpress News.

Occupying forces have detained 327 Georgian citizens in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali for “illegally crossing the border” from 2017 to 2019, according to the Georgian State Security Service.
