Nenskra Hydro Launches Major Social Projects in Svaneti as of February

JSC Nenskra Hydro, Nenskra Hydropower Plant (HPP) project company, held meetings with  the communities in Mestia Municipality villages – Chuberi and Nakra February 11-12 to announce three major social projects to be implemented. The projects had been developed based on the needs assessment of the local communities and are to be launched as soon as in February this year.   

The Land Registration Assistance Project offers the the community of Nenskra and Nakra valleys service of preparation of cadastral drawings of land plots plots (up to 450 ha in total) owned and used by all communities and family farms living in the valleys. This service will be rendered in accordance with the applicable legal law on “Land Registration”. The costs related to consulting on the procedures of land registration and mapping, measurement and preparation of cadastral drawings of land plots will be fully covered by Nenskra Hydro. 

The Access to Mechanization (Technical Assistance with Machinery) Project implies to provide the community with heavy machinery service on behalf of the company on the basis of a group-based and individual requests from the community. The project will contribute to agricultural and small infrastructure rehabilitation activities.

Heavy Machinery Operator Training Program is designed to contribute to vocational training of the local population and fund the heavy machinery training program for those operators who will be most demanded during Nenskra HPP construction.  

The public hearings held by JSC „Nenskra Hydro” were attended by Nino Vibliani, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Deputy Governor, and Kapiton ZhorZholiani, Mayor of Mestia Municipality. All the three projects are being implemented within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation concluded between JSC Nenskra Hydro and Mestia Municipality in 2018. 

JSC Nenskra Hydro is a project-based company established 2015 as a result of cooperation between Korea Water Resources Corporation K-water and JSC Partnership Fund. The company will construct the Nenskra Hydropower Plant in the Nenskra and Nakra river Valleys in Mestia Municipality of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region. The 280 MW Nenskra Hydropower Plant will generate approximately 1’200.00 GWh of electricity annually, which will be fully consumed by the Georgian market. Along with the construction activities, JSC “Nenskra Hydro” is implementing a range of social projects targeted at sustainable development of the region. The social projects are being implemented primarily in the areas of vocational training, small-scale infrastructure rehabilitation and small and medium enterprises development.
