Zoo Designer Visits Georgia
Dutch landscape designer and biologist, Erik van Vliet, is currently visiting Georgia in an effort to help with the rehabilitation of the Tbilisi Zoo, which was severely damaged during a flood earlier this year.
He initiated the meeting and is not seeking any compensation for his work.
Van Vliet is in the process of developing drafts for modern open air enclosures that will house the remaining zoo animals. The Tbilisi Zoo staff is working closely with van Vliet and hope to benefit from his 21 years of experience designing zoos.
Van Vliet has designed some of the world's most famous zoos, including DierenPark Amersfoort, Safaripark Beekse Bergen, Avifauna Birdpark, Dierenrijk, Zodiac Zoos, and Gaiapark Kerkrade Zoo in The Netherlands, Antwerp Zoo and Planckendael in Belgium, Allwetterzoo Münster and Zoo Magdeburg in Germany, Knowsley Safari Park in the United Kingdom, and Zoological Center Ramat Gan in Israel.
Van Vliet will be staying in Tbilisi until October 14th.
