New Life to Be Given to Mziuri Park
The Municipal Development Fund of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia is carrying out a large-scale renovation project in one of the most popular and picturesque parks of Tbilisi, Mziuri, which was devastated as a result of a flood on June 13, 2015.
Within the scope of the project, it is planned to give new life to the park and completely rehabilitate it and the territory, adjacent to the Tchabua Amirejibi Highway.
Skateboard parks, soccer fields, bicycle paths, children’s playgrounds, an artificial lake, as well as gardens and other greeneries are to be set up in the vicinity of the Mziuri Park, transforming it into the best recreational zone of the city, suitable for all age groups. Persons with disabilities will also have access to the area.
A mini multi-media library and minimalistic exhibition hall are planned to be arranged in the former cableway building of Mziuri. An irrigation system will also be installed throughout the area.
The rehabilitation works also cover geological and hydrological studies of the park.
Kakha Kaladze, Mayor of Tbilisi, and Maya Tskitishvili, Vice Premier, Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, recently visited the Mziuri Park and observed the ongoing renovation works on site.
Kaladze focused on the importance of carrying out the restoration works in Mziuri.
“After the completion of the renovation, Mziuri will be one of the best recreation zones in the city center, where the representatives of all generations will have an opportunity to relax and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere of the park,” stated the Mayor.
The project is sponsored by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and is set to be completed in 2020.
