Fire Breaks out in Gudamakari Forest

An extensive fire has destroyed more than 5 hectares of forest in Gudamakari Gorge, north-east Georgia.

The Emergency Management Service of Georgia reports that due to the mountains, it is impossible to put out the fire with the help of fire-fighting vehicles, adding around 20 firefighters are trying to localize the fire at the site.

The agency added that the fire is not extensive anymore and the fire-fighters will stay on the spot during the whole night and work.

The Emergency Management Service says so far only bushes and grass have been burnt.

Gudamakari is a small historical geographic area in northeast Georgia on the southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountains.
