Fire Near Kobuleti Damages Water Pipe, Leave 220 Without Water
A fire that broke out Thursday evening has caused damage to a section of a water line serving the village of Buknari in western Georgia on the coast of the Black Sea, leaving 220 without water. Mirian Katamadze, the Mayor of Kobuleti, some 12km north of Buknari, announced the news on Facebook.
A five-meter section of pipe was damaged in the blaze. The cause of the fire is yet unknown, but Katamadze said authorities suspect it was an act of arson. Law enforcement was at the scene to investigate, the Mayor said.
“Our assessment and suspicion are signs that this was intentional, but it is difficult to say until the investigation is over,” Suliko Tkhilaiashvili, director of the Kobuleti water system, told Batumelebi, a news service covering the Ajara region.
The pipe repair is scheduled to be completed on Friday, and water restored to residents of Buknari.
