Demna Gvasalia Honored with Pratt Institute’s Creative Spirit Award
The world-renown Georgian fashion designer Demna Gvasalia, currently occupying the post of the Creative Director of the prominent Balenciaga fashion house, is the owner of multiple prizes. However, he has recently obtained yet another award, but not for the creative approaches, applied in his collections, but for the high-level of social responsibility and contribution to the better future of youngsters.
On May 7, Brooklyn’s Pratt Institute recognized Demna Gvasalia with the Creative Spirit Award. Even though the designer was unable to attend the gala evening, held at the Park Hyatt New York, the Balenciaga brand has offered the Black Alumni of Pratt Group (BAP) to provide full 4-year scholarships for the 2 students of the Institute.
Established in 1990, the Black Alumni of Pratt has been implementing a number of initiatives for increasing diversity and offering the students of African and Latino descents better access to financial aid, wider career opportunities and mentorship. Since its launch, the BAP has raised over $5 million for this purpose.
