Mountainous Regions of Georgia to Be Provided with Internet
The 2018-2020 report of the Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze states that the government is to provide the highland regions of the country, Pshavi, Khevsureti, Gudamakari, Arkhoti, as well as Ardoti gorges in particular, with internet. Wi-fi internet is to be launched in the areas, within the scope of the initiative.
The development of highlands is among the top priorities of the Georgian Government. Thus, as a result of the decision of the National Council of Mountain Development, it has already allocated the total necessary finances – over 246,000 GEL. Internet Society – Georgia Chapter (ISOC- Georgia), a group formed by the members of the Internet Society who live and work in Georgia, is also contributing to the implementation of the project by financing it with $25,000.
The initiative will cover the areas of Pshavi, Ukana Pshavi, Piraketa (southern) Khevsureti, Arkhoti, Pirikita (northern) Khevsureti, Ardoti and Gudamakari and will be carried out in two stages.
Within the framework of the project, 76 villages and four local schools will benefit from internet, while the fixed IP telephone is also planned to be provided for 50 subscribers in the region.
