USAID to Provide Financial Aid for Georgian Farmers

The Georgian farmers, residing close to the occupation lines near the Shida Kartli region, affected by the strong hails, are to be financially assisted by the United States Agency for International Development (USAD), which has allocated the aid worth of $1 million.

Peter Wiebler, the Mission Director of the USAID, stated that the financial assistance will enable the government to purchase and distribute the relevant equipment for the farmers and thus, contribute to the facilitation of their work in future.

Levan Davitashvili, the Minister of Agriculture of Georgia commented on the aid, provided by the US government within the scope of the project ‘Zrda’ and noted that assistance of the population, residing on territories adjacent to the occupation lines, represents one of the major priorities of the government.

Heavy hails damaged nearly 10,000 hectares of agricultural lands, affecting more than 7,000 residents of the region of Shida Kartli last month.
