Cyprus Adds Georgia to List of Safe Countries

Georgia has been added to the list of safe countries by Cyprus, representing the 13th country in the EU/Schengen zone to make such a decision regarding Georgia, reports the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“This decision of Cyprus is yet another approval that Georgia, in terms of human rights and democratic standards, as well as general political environ and security, is considered to be a country, where there is no oppression towards citizens and they are protected from any possible prosecution,” reads the statements of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.

As a result of the decision, accelerated procedure will be used for consideration of asylum applications filed by Georgian citizens.

Including Cyprus, Bulgaria, France, Lichtenstein, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Iceland, Luxembourg, Ireland, Estonia, Denmark and the Czech Republic have recognized Georgia as a safe country.
