Identity Cards Issued for Free for Certain Categories of Citizens from Today
With the initiative of the Minister of Justice, for the purpose of improving the voter list, from July 1 of the current year, issuing share of ID cards for free will be launched for certain categories of citizens.
According to the agency, the aim of the action is the improvement of election lists, improvement of database and providing citizens with modern credible electronic document.
Citizens can use the fin share only once. They will be exempt from paying for the identity card as well as photographs. In case of wish, fin share will benefit Georgian adult citizens and citizens of Georgia who will get 18 years old to January 1, 2021.
- Up to November 1, 2020, individuals can be granted taking ID cards free of charge if the following:
- Until 1 July 2019, none of the Identity cards’ documents of the Georgian citizen had been issued.
- All IDs issued to them have been revoked up to 1 July 2019, or will be canceled until 1 November 2020;
- Photographs of ID documents are inappropriate (poor quality) or are not stored at the Agency's electronic database;
- Are released from the registration, the ID card is canceled and will be registered at the correct address within the fin share.
- Are registered without address, have an invalid ID card and will register at a particular address;
- Are registered in the occupied territory of Georgia and do not have the status of internally displaced persons, Besides, they have invalid ID card and will be registered at the particular address of the Georgian controlled territory
Over the last 5 years, the ID cards have been issued to more than 3,020,000 citizens, meaning that the potential voters' bases have been significantly improved. It contains more than 3 million detailed information. From the initiative of the Minister of Justice, up to 1 630 000 IDs have been issued free of charge or at a reasonable price.
