Finance Minister Meets with New Regional Director of World Bank

“The reform program that Georgia has been implementing for the past few years is very impressive,” stated Sebastian Molineus, new World Bank Regional Director for the South Caucasus, at his meeting with Ivane Matchavariani, Georgian Finance Minister.

Ivane Matchavariani congratulated the guest on his new position and expressed his gratitude to the World Bank for the effective and fruitful cooperation.

At the meeting, the parties discussed the ongoing projects carried out with the financial assistance of the World Bank and had a conversation regarding the reforms of the government that are to be carried out in the education and human capital development directions.

It was also noted that the agreement worth 90 million EUR, signed recently for carrying out the Inclusion, Innovation and Quality Project, is to contribute to the successful implementation of the reform. The project is in full accordance with the strategy of cooperation of the World Bank’s latest Country Partnership Framework 2019-2022 for Georgia and is to help the country’s government in terms of implementing the 2018-2023 educational reforms.

Georgia's progress with regards to reforms was positively evaluated at the meeting. The hope for the further enhancement of the cooperation between the World Bank and Georgia was also expressed.

The World Bank is an active supporter of the ongoing reforms of Georgia. In its 25 years of collaboration, it has made investments worth more than $4.3 billion, allocated for projects in Georgia.
