Caucasus University to Launch New Campus in Batumi

The launch of construction of the new campus of the Caucasus University was held in the coastal city of Batumi in the region of Ajara earlier today.

Salome Zurabishvili, President of Georgia was among the guests of the official ceremony, who took to the stage. While addressing the audience, Zurabishvili strongly accentuated the significance of launching the new university in the Autonomous Republic of Ajara, noting that it is to lead to the process of decentralization and development of the regions, which is pivotal for the strength of the country.

“I have said multiple times that the development of the regions is our major priority and obviously, launching a new educational institution is one of the paramount steps in this direction,” stated the President.

In addition, Salome Zurabishvili expressed happiness due to the fact that the modern university with interesting architecture, has been designed by the Georgian architects, and is to create multiplicity of work places for locals, representing it as yet another way for the regional development of the country and preventing the population from leaving Georgia in search for the new job and additional income.

Finally, the Georgian President noted that the Batumi branch of the Caucasus University will boast Georgian, as well as international students, thus serving as a source of additional financial profit from abroad. The campus is to cater for 1,500 youngsters after completion. 

Tornike Rijvadze, Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Ajara also addressed the guests, stating that the project does not only envisage the construction of the campus of an educational institution. It is to create a well-developed modern infrastructure for youngsters, comprising of all the necessary courses and facilities, labs, libraries, sport squares and more, for obtaining the high-quality education. 

Caucasus University has nearly 130 partners from 70 countries, enabling it to admit foreign students and lecturers, as well as conduct double-quality and exchange programmes for students, academic and administrative staff.

Rijvadze also said, the project has been implemented as a result of several months of negotiations, and is set to be completed within three years, transforming Ajara into the regional hub in the education direction.

Caucasus University was established in 2004 on the foundation of Caucasus School of Business, established in 1998 in Georgia. In 2018, the university launched a new campus in Tbilisi, marking its 20th anniversary.
