Trump Administration to Speed up Deportation of Undocumented Immigrants

The Trump administration has made an announcement about plans to expand the use of “expedited removal” deportations and make it easier to fast-track the relevant procedures for newly arrived, undocumented immigrants who have illegally entered the territory of the USA within the past two years.

The initiative is set to come into force today, July 23, allowing the immigration officials to detain and deport immigrants who are unable to provide appropriate documents on their legal residence in the USA and physical presence in the territory of the country for at least the past two years without a hearing.

The recent announcement of the Trump Administration led to criticism from part of society. A number of public figures and representatives of civil society have stated that this is an unfair process, which will affect thousands of individuals. The American Civil Liberties Union has already expressed readiness to challenge the project.

“Under this unlawful plan, immigrants who have lived here for years would be deported with less due process than people get in traffic court,” stated Omar Jadwat, director of the Immigrants’ Rights Project of the ACLU, adding “We will sue to end this policy quickly.”
