UK to Welcome New Prime Minister

Boris Johnson, former Mayor of London, was elected as the leader of the Conservative Party earlier today, defeating his rival Jeremy Hunt in the party’s leadership contest, making him the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Johnson obtained 66% of votes out of 159,320 party members, with a 87.4% turnout.

Boris Johnson will replace Theresa May, who decided to resign following the chaos that has been developing for a number of months surroundng the issue of Brexit.

The new Prime Minister is to take office on Wednesday, July 24, when May officially leaves her post.
