Kalandia Trial Underway at Tbilisi City Court

The first essential trial of Mikheil Kalandia, one of the main witnesses of the notorious Khorava Street murders, is underway at Tbilisi City Court.

The trial is being conducted in a closed format, attended by the family members and friends.

4 lawyers are defending Mikheil Kalandia.

Before the session, only the defense made comments. According to lawyer Ana Kotetishvili, there is no material or written evidence against Kalandia in the case. The defense demands the release of Kalandia from pretrial detention.

Kalandia once again stated at today’s session that he is not guilty.

Mikheil Kalandia was detained for the Khorava street murder of December 2017, which left two teenagers – Davit Saralidze and Levan Dadunashvili – stabbed to death.

Davit Saralidze died in hospital due to multiple wounds in his back, while Levan Dadunashvili died on the scene.

Kalandia was charged with the premeditated murder of David Saralidze by a group, in aggravating circumstances.

He was sentenced to imprisonment as a preventive measure by Tbilisi City Court on June 6, 2019.
