Mamuka Bakhtadze, Prime Minister of Georgia and Salome Zurabishvili, President of the country, have sent congratulatory messages to Boris Johnson on becoming the leader of the Conservative Party and the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom respectively, through their official social media webpages.

Along with felicitations sent to Johnson, Zurabishvili focused on the expectations to deepen strategic cooperation between the United Kingdom and Georgia.

“Boris Johnson, congratulations on becoming the next Prime Minister of the #UnitedKingdom! Georgia and the UK have a historic friendship that we will continue to deepen as strategic partners,” reads the post of the Georgian President.

The Head of the Georgian Government also congratulated his British counterpart on this success and expressed hope on enhancing relations between the two countries.

“Congratulations to Boris Johnson on being elected as the new Conservative leader and on becoming the Prime Minister, I am confident that our relations will become even stronger as we have still many avenues left to explore and develop,” wrote Bakhtadze on his Twitter page.

Boris Johnson was elected as the leader of the Conservative Party on July 23 and has replaced Theresa May.
