Prosecutor’s Office Plans to Question Nika Gvaramia
The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia plans to question former Director-General of Rustavi 2 TV, Nika Gvaramia.
As stated by the Prosecutor’s Office, documents and electronic information will be seized from the contractor companies of the Rustavi 2 broadcasting company, including Inter Media and Inter Media Plus within the framework of the investigation into the abuse of power against the legitimate interests of Rustavi 2 and misappropriation of a large amount of funds.
According to the statement of the prosecutor's office, the investigation was launched into the case based on the statement of the lawyer of Nino Nizharadze, former owner of 9% of Rustavi 2 shares.
Additionally, the statement of Paata Salia (new Director of the channel and the lawyer of the current owner of the TV Company Kibar Khalvashi) about an alleged crime which significantly damaged the broadcasting company, was also attached to the case.
The date when Gvaramia will be questioned is unknown at this stage.
The former Rustavi 2 Shareholder Nino Nizharadze, who was the owner of 9% shares of TV Channel, appealed to the Prosecutor's Office to investigate the activities of Nika Gvaramia, who was the Director of the TV Company at the time.
As Nizharadze's lawyer explained Gvaramia abused his official authority and made decisions which were harmful to the TV Channel. According to the lawyer, this was even visible from the financial documents belonging to the channel.
Nizhradze's complaint refers to the relationship between R2 and advertising house Intermedia. According to Kavlashvili, the TV Company Rustavi 2 signed a contract with the advertising house on a fixed amount of money, which was not in accordance with the interests of the channel and this caused financial damage and loss to the TV company.
Nizharadze's position is that Rustavi 2 accumulated money in Intermedia deliberately.
