Former Owners of Rustavi 2 File Lawsuit against Public Registry

Former owners of Rustavi 2, the Karamanishvili brothers, sue the Public Registry of Georgia. A lawsuit has already been filed in the Tbilisi City Court. The relevant information was spread by lawyer Dimitri Sadzaglishvili.

Brothers Karamanishvili consider that according to the Public Registry’s decision, Kibar Khalvashi, the current owner of Rustavi 2, has received the shares of the TV Company very fast, in a few hours, which was illegal.

Lawyer Dimitri Sadzaglishvili explains that after the Strasbourg Court’s ruling, the Registry should not transfer shares to Kibar Khalvashi, as after the appeal, the Grand Chamber of the Court of Human Rights may make a different decision.

Sadzaglishvili also does not exclude that the new owner will bankrupt the broadcasting company.

"They will probably try to bankrupt the company, either directly or indirectly, which means the closure of programs, staff changes, reduction of salaries, etc,” says Sadzaglishvili.
