Gvaramia: Top Players Are on Board and We Are about to Take Off

Nika Gvaramia, the former Director-General of Rustavi 2, addressed Rustavi 2 journalists via his Facebook page today, promising that he will “beg no more”. The former Director-General has reported that he has some investors and therefore – money; the coming TV channel will have a better building and technologies than Rustavi 2.

“The top players who have created Rustavi 2 are on board and we are about to take off. I will beg no more. It is up to you whether you want to be with the winners and hop on to the departing ship. The other choice is Ivanishvili’s TV channel. Don’t say later that you had no choice,” reads the publication of Gvaramia on his official Facebook page.
 
Gvaramia’s Facebook post also revealed the slogan of the new TV channel Mtavari Arkhi: ‘Get Your Liberty with Us’. The former Director-General mentioned that starting Monday, August 26 contracts will be signed among the channel and journalists. 
 
This is not the first time Gvaramia has said he will greet former Rustai 2 journalists.
The new Director-General of Rustavi 2, Paata Salia, announced yesterday that he is laying off Head of TV’s News Department, Nodar Meladze, and TV anchors: Giorgi Gabunia, Eka Kvesitadze, Nanuka Zhorzholiani as well as the Secretary of Director General, Giorgi Laperashvili.  Salia offered “internal wars” and “conflict of interests” as reasons for the journalists’ dismissal.
In a form of protest, TV anchors Diana Jojua, Paata Iakobashvili and Misha Sesiashvili have quit Rustavi 2.
