Gvaramia: "Main Channel" Might Start Broadcasting on September 9

"New TV Company the 'Main Channel' is likely to start broadcasting on September 9. It will be temporarily placed in the building of Iberia TV”, Nika Gvaramia, the former Director-General of the Rustavi 2 TV Company, told news agency Interpressnews.

Gvaramia explains that the equipment that the TV company “Main Channel” should use for operating belongs to Iberia TV.

“We will temporarily work in the building of the Iberia TV Broadcaster. It will be a temporary broadcast because arranging the equipment for broadcasting takes time. 

We haven’t chosen the location yet, and are discussing several options and until all of this is resolved, I don't think that it is right not to be on air. Therefore, we will start a temporary broadcast. As for the journalists who will work on the “Main Channel”, I already have everyone I need”, Gvaramia added.

The former Director-General of Rustavi 2 informed media about the founding of a new TV channel named ‘Mtavari Arkhi’ (Main Channel) a few days ago.

Gvaramia also published a public registry document which shows how the ownership of the TV Company is shared: 51% of the channel is owned by Nika Gvaramia and 49% by Kakhaber Anjaparidze.

Gvaramia serves as the Director-General of the channel, Irakli Nizharadze is Financial Director, while the former lawyers of Rustavi 2: Dimitri Sadzaglishvili and Tamta Muradashvili are mentioned as Directors in the document.

Nika Gvaramia decided to establish a new TV Channel after he was dismissed from the post of Director General of TV Company Rustavi 2. Rustavi 2 now has a new head - Paata Salia, the lawyer of the current owner of Rustavi 2 - businessman  Kibar Khalvashi. 

“I’m not going to change the editorial policy of Rustavi 2. The changes will only apply to one person – Nika Gvaramia, who was appointed on this post by the regime which took away my company from me (ex-government). Gvaramia will no longer be able to continue his activities at Rustavi 2 neither as a journalist nor as a Director-General. My lawyer Paata Salia will head the Company instead of him”, Kibar Khalvashi said.
