Merabishvili to Be Released From Prison in February 2020

Ivane (Vano) Merabishviil, former Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, is set to leave prison on February 20.

Merabishvili was arrested in May 2013, on charges of the forceful dispersal of a protest rally on May 26, 2011, hiding of evidence in the Sandro Girgviliani murder case, as well as the physical assault of Valeri Gelashvili, representative of the opposition.

The former Minister was sentenced to 6 years and 9 months detention in total, but may face additional charges for the dispersal of a large-scale protest rally and raid of Imedi TV on November 7, 2007.
