Matchavariani: Teachers’ Salaries Will Increase by 300 GEL in 2019-2020

Ivane Matchavariani, Minister of Finance of Georgia has stated that education remains one of the major priorities in the 2020 budget.

“The 2019 budget was built around human capital and we are to continue this direction next year. In addition, we have an unprecedented positive case in the field of education. The first stage of increasing teachers’ salaries by 150 GEL is to kick off on October 1, while the next stage will take place next year, with the same amount of money, making it a 300 GEL per monthly raise. In addition, if we take into account the reform being implemented in the sphere of education, it enables teachers to benefit from the growth in salaries by increasing their working hours. We believe that the majority of teachers will receive a 400 GEL increase. The salaries of kindergarten teachers have represented a problem over the years. The new project also envisages increasing their salaries by 100 GEL. Improvements with regards to the rehabilitation of kindergartens are also underway. The total expenses in the education infrastructure amount to nearly 280 million GEL,”
