Court Orders GEL 1000 Bail from Zviad Kuprava

The Tbilisi City Court has ordered 1000 GEL bail from Zviad Kuprava, head of the Law Enforcement Reform Center and active participant of the protests held by Zaza Saralidze, a father of a teenager killed in a school brawl on Khorava Street last year.

He was found guilty of violence against lawyer Irakli Zakareishvili and the a court ruling announced by Judge Dali Metreveli at today’s session.

The defendant himself notes that Zakareishvili has private interests in him.

Kuprava was officially charged on February 19, 2019, based on the appeal of the affected. The investigation established that he physically abused a lawyer in the yard of the Court, for which he was charged under Article 126 of the Criminal Code (violence).

At the same time, the investigation established that he verbally abused a judge in the court building on June 11, 2018, for which he was charged under Article 366 of the Criminal Code (disrespect for the court).

He was sentenced to prison for nine months and is still in custody.

He will be released from prison on November 24.
