Khazaradze Makes Sexist Remarks, Grigolia Kneads Dough while On-Air
On October 3, Inga Grigolia, a famous Georgian journalist and an anchor for 1TV’s program ‘Reaction’, kneaded dough live on-air. The act was a form of protest against Khazaradze’s sexist statement.
“I just want to show you how easy it is for us women first to knead the dough, bake Khachapuri or something else, then go to work and project the doings of politicians. That is something I do every day,” said Grigolia on-air while energetically kneading the dough.
Her act of protest didn’t just address Khazaradze’s statement; it was aimed against all the sexist stereotypical attitudes in Georgian society. While sexism is becoming less common in the country, it still turns up from time to time.
“I come into work. I am at ease because I know my home is clean and then I say: Good evening, ‘Reaction’ is live on-air, presented to you by Inga Grigolia every Tuesday and Thursday. That is how we do it; us, women from Georgia,” stated Grigolia.
On October 3, the founder of the TBC Group and Lelo movement, Mamuka Khazaradze, used sexism to criticize the Minister of Infrastructure, Maia Tskitishvili. He was quoted as saying: “Maia Ckitishvili has no idea what infrastructure is or how it works. She might know how to bake a good Khachapuri, but I am not so sure about her having an adequate background to be trusted with billions."
On her end, Tskitishvili answered that unlike Khazaradze, she bakes good khachapuri and does her job well. With this, the Minister encouraged young girls not to fear sexism, stand up for themselves and do their jobs to their utmost ability.
