Tbilisoba 2019 Celebrated this Weekend
The annual festival Tbilisoba is taking place in Georgia’s capital on October 5-6.
The festival events are being held in various locations throughout Tbilisi, including Rike, Leghvtakhevi, Metekhi Bridge, European and Orbeliani Squares.
The program of Tbilisoba this year is quite diverse and includes a variety of activities, including concerts and attractions; culinary, candy and flower festivals; fancy-dress marches and sports activities, Orbeliani open market, pavilions of twin cities with Tbilisi, musical performances, Tbilisi Big-Band concert.
The traditional award ceremony of seven honorable citizens and a gala concert took place at Orbeliani Square on October 5, at 8 pm. The concert was dedicated to the legendary Georgian composer Giya Kancheli, who died after a long illness on October 2, aged 84.
The title of "Honorary Citizen of Tbilisi" was awarded to 7 persons distinguished for their efforts in various fields.
Each of them was thanked by Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze. Specifically, awards were received employees of the TbilService Group, bus driver, employee of Tbilisi Metro, librarian, kindergarten music teacher and former Mayor of Tbilisi, Niko Lekishvili.
“I want to thank Niko Lekishvili for what he has done for our city. He has done a lot for our city together with his team. I appreciate his efforts,” Kakha Kaladze said.
President Salome Zurabishvili, Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, and Parliament Speaker Archil Talakvadze also joined the celebrations.
At 8 pm on September 6, a unique show – Muaré experience will take place within the framework of the Tbilisi International Theater Festival, founded by the City Hall.
Tbilisoba, one of the most popular and widely attended festivals in the country, was first held on October 28, 1979, and has since become an established tradition. Beyond celebrating the city's past and present, people from all over Georgia represent their region at the fair.
