WB Executive Director: Georgia's Education Reform Efforts are Important

Finance Minister of Georgia Ivane Matchavariani met with Koen Davidse, World Bank Executive Director, within the framework of annual meetings with the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

The sides positively evaluated Georgia’s progress in carrying out reforms and expressed hope that cooperation between the World Bank and the Government of Georgia would be further enhanced.

Davidse welcomed Georgia’s efforts to make doing business easier and expressed support to the development of infrastructure and the private sector.

The WB Executive Director noted that Georgia’s economy is developing well.

“We had a very interesting meeting with the Minister of Finance. We talked about Georgia's economy, which is developing very well. The country's efforts to make doing business easier have also been positively reflected in the World Bank's "Ease of Doing Business" and today your country is sixth in the rankings. We also discussed the possibility of future cooperation in terms of infrastructure development and the promotion of the private sector. What is important to us is the great effort Georgia is making towards education reform. We see good prospects and are ready for support," Davids said.

The World Bank is an active supporter of the ongoing reforms in Georgia. It has invested about $4.3 billion in the implementation of more than 100 projects in the country.
