Quit-smoking Products May Go Tax-Free

The Chair of the Health Care and Social Issues Committee, Akaki Zoidze, has presented an initiative to the Parliament of Georgia, which states that all quit-smoking products need to be made tax-free.

The initiative aims to decrease the alarming number of smokers in Georgia.

“It’s important that each medically approved product that helps smokers quit their bad habit be as affordable as possible. I encourage you to support this change, as it ensures that quit-smoking products become free of value-added and import taxes,” Zoidze said at the Plenary Session in Parliament on October 16.

Last year, the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health published data on tobacco use. It stated that around 33% of adults in Georgia smoked cigarettes regularly.
