Ukrainian Office of MasterCard to Coordinate Activities in Georgia

A technology company in the global payments industry has placed business in Georgia, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan under management of the Kiev office of MasterCard.

Vera Platonova, Head of MasterCard Europe representative office in Ukraine and Moldova, will manage the company's activities in the above-mentioned regions together with the Kiev office team of MasterCard using international expertise and vast experience of MasterCard on the Ukrainian and Moldavian markets.

“I am confident that the expertise and experience of the Ukrainian team in implementing innovations will help to propel the payment markets of Georgia, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan to the next level of development. While the Georgian market is sufficiently developed, payment markets in other countries are only at the initial stage of its growth – and have a great potential. For example, in Kyrgyzstan the bank cards are used by only about 10% of its population. Therefore, we want to bring the best payment instruments and new MasterCard technologies to these countries, which have already been successfully launched in Ukraine and Moldova”, Platonova said.

In Ukraine, MasterCard has been operating since 2006 and during this period it has become the market leader while providing a number of innovative solutions. In 2011, the company launched MasterCard contactless payment technology, and today one can make contactless payments throughout Ukraine at cafes, supermarkets, gas stations, taxis and at the turnstiles of Kiev subway and funicular.

In 2013, the company introduced MoneySend technology, which is actively used by Ukrainians: Ukraine is currently ranked as one of the most active countries using MoneySend service.
