Holy Synod Dismisses Metropolitan of Chkondidi from Position of Bishop
Petre Tsaava, the Metropolitan of Chkondidi, says he has been fired from the position of Bishop by the Holy Synod because he submitted incriminating evidence against Patriarch Ilia II.
He made the relevant statement after leaving the meeting of the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church, adding that this is "an unfair decision."
"Regarding my attitude, and for those of you wondering about the punishment, I would say that if today's session of the Synod has turned into a Pilate court, anything is possible," he said on leaving the Synod, referring to the cruel fifth governor of the Roman province of Judaea, during the reign of the Emperor Tiberius.
A meeting of the Holy Synod was held today, on October 31, at the Patriarchate of Georgia.
The clerics of the higher hierarchy have yet to specify what issues were discussed at today's session, however, it is not excluded that the clergy discussed, among other important matters, Archbishop Jacobs' recent statements in the media.
Today's session was also attended by the Archbishop of Bodbe, Archbishop Jacob, who resigned from his post as the Patriarch’s Chorepiscopos, making the respective statement on October 28.
