Public Defender Supports the Patriarch

The Public Defender, Nino Lomjaria has commented on the recent developments around the Holy Synod. In her Facebook post, it becomes clear that the Ombudsman supports the Patriarch: “anyone who uses an accusation about sexual orientation or sexual life as a weapon, has sunk to the lowest level.”

Nino Lomjaria writes that the ongoing processes in the Patriarchate are a fight for power.

“I don’t know and I am incompetent in the inner conflicts that are happening in the Patriarchate, but from what I can see, it is just a fight for power and has nothing to do with sanctified aims or ideals (at least the people who have been publicly involved in these conflicts for the last few years, have nothing to do with religion, belief, Christianity, decency…). There is one thing that is very clear for me: anyone who uses an accusation about sexual orientation or sexual life as a weapon has sunk to the lowest level. [Their insults] are the diagnosis of their morality.”

After stating her ideas about what is going on inside the Patriarchate, Lomjaria went on to express her support for the Patriarch.

“I - a human, a citizen, and the Public Defender - would like to express my support to the Patriarch who became the aim of this plebian language of hatred. The Patriarch is also a human, above all, a senior… It is unacceptable to cross a line when going against someone. However, this line was crossed very ruthlessly and dirtily towards the Patriarch,” reads the Facebook post of the Public Defender, Nino Lomjaria.

On October 31, during the Holy Synod meeting, Holy Synod dismissed the Metropolitan of Chkondidi from the position of Bishop. Petre Tsaava, the former Metropolitan of Chkondidi, called the decision unfair and named “revealing homosexualism inside the church” as the reason for his dismissal.
