Best Countries for Women: Georgia in 46th Place

The world’s best countries for women in terms of gender equality have been announced for the first time since the launch of the index in 2017.

The Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, in partnership with the Peace Research Institute of Oslo, has released the 2019 Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Index. The index ranks 167 countries by women’s equality.

The index focuses on three key parts of social involvement - inclusion in society, sense of security and exposure to discrimination. These categories are further broken down into 11 more specific indicators.

The new research put Georgia on 46th place in 167 countries with an index of 0.777, in between Costa Rica (45) and Mongolia (47). Georgia’s neighboring countries are all below, with Russia at 51st, Armenia 82nd, Turkey 114th, and Azerbaijan 123rd.
