Illegally Detained Georgian Doctor Sent to Pretrial Detention
Famous Georgian doctor and traumatologist Vazha Gaprindashvili, who was illegally detained by Russian-controlled occupation forces on Saturday, has been sent to two months of pretrial detention, Ossetian media reports. The trial was held today.
Gaprindashvili was illegally detained near the village of Orchosani on November 9 and was charged with 'illegally crossing the border,' of Georgia’s Russian-occupied Tskhinvali region.
The Georgian media reports that Gaprindashvili was visiting a patient when he was abducted.
The hotline was activated by the European Union Monitoring Mission and negotiations are in progress regarding his release.
Gaprindashvili and three other citizens were illegally detained by Russian-controlled occupation forces between 9 and 11 November.
The rest of the detainees were released from Tskhinvali on November 14.
