Demonstration Underway in front of the Parliament
The demonstration is underway on Rustaveli Avenue, in front of the Parliament building. The protestors’ main demand remains to be snap proportional parliamentary elections.
The protest has blocked the Rustaveli Avenue for traffic. The activists have set up camps on the road. Some of them have brought barrels and firewood – using them to warm up the cold night of Tbilisi.
Yesterday, on November 14, the Parliament rejected the bill on electoral amendments in the first reading, refusing to officially adopt a proportional system of parliamentary elections. Previously, during the June protests, the Government promised the public the 2020 parliamentary elections would be proportional.
The part of Georgian society, as well as the political opposition, have united in the protests against the Government, demanding snap proportional parliamentary elections. The ‘big’ protest is planned in front of the Parliament on Sunday, November 17.
