Russian Airlines Lost over 3 Billion Rubles due to Ban on Flying to Georgia

"Russian airlines have lost more than three billion Rubles because of a ban on direct Russia-Georgia flights," ‘Vedomosti’ reports, noting that Ural Airlines underwent the loss above all.

Aeroflot and S7 Airlines, legally JSC Siberia Airlines lost more than 700 million Rubles. As for Pobeda Airlines, it lost 400 million Rubles and Red Wings – 120 million Rubles.

In order to get compensation, Russian airlines submitted indicated data to the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, however, the Ministry promised to compensate only direct losses.

President Vladimir Putin ordered the temporary ban of passenger flights from Russia to Georgia following an outbreak of unrest in Tbilisi triggered by the visit of a Russian lawmaker in June. The Russian government promised at the time to compensate airlines for their losses.
