Administrative Imprisonment Ordered for Activists Detained at Parliament Rallies

Tbilisi Court found the persons detained during the dispersal of November 18 rally, Irakli Nadiradze, member of City Council, Giga Makarashvili, one of the organizers of the protest rally, and three other detainees, Dimitri Bidzinashvili, Davit Mzhavanadze and Irakli Kacharava, guilty of violating the law and disobeying police.

Another detainee, Paata Sosanashvili, was only given a verbal warning.

The judge sentenced Irakli Nadiradze to administrative imprisonment of 13 days, Giga Makarashvili to 12 days, Dimitri Bidzinashvili to 13 days, Davit Mzhavanadze and Irakli Kacharava to 4 days each.

The protests in Tbilisi were sparked after the rejection of the election bill last week, proposed by the ruling Georgian Dream party, offering the transition to a fully proportional electoral system from 2020 instead of 2024.
