Two Centuries Old Wine Cellar Opens in Saguramo
A historic wine cellar dating back to the 18th century, opened its doors again - after a renovation - on the 178th anniversary of prominent poet and public figure Ilia Chavchavadze.
The opening ceremony of the renovated and restored Marani (wine cellar) took place in the village Saguramo on Sunday November 8th.
The cellar, preserving unique Georgian wine and wine-making equipment, welcomes tourists from around the world and introduces them to the Georgian culture and the taste of Georgian wine.
The Marani is located on the territory of the Ilia Chavchavadze Museum in the village Saguramo, Mtskheta region, just dozens of kilometers from Tbilisi.
The Marani project was implemented by wine-producing company Kakhetian Traditional Winemaking.
Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili, Georgian billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, and members of the Government attended the opening ceremony of the historic wine cellar.
