Activists Place a School Desk near Interior Ministry, as Symbolic Expression of Grief
The activists of the public movement “In the Service of the Country” held a silent performance in front of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia. They brought a school desk and a chair near the building as a symbolic expression of the joint heartache over the tragic incident; “Luka, by way of justice, should have normally attended his school today”, is the message conveyed by the performance.
Nodar Rukhadze, one of the members of the movement, says the performance aims to express the discontent with the death of a 15-year-old teenager.
“The current system is violent. With this act we sought to protest the system's violence”, he says.
The Interior Ministry did not initially allow members of the “Shame" movement to bring the items into the yard, but eventually the activists managed to proceed with their intention.
The case of Luka Siradze is being investigated by the State Inspectorate. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, two police officers have already been suspended. One investigator has been arrested.
The "Shame", "Change" and "Dare" movements plan to protest in front of the Ministry of Internal Affairs today, 19:00.
