Man Admits to Stabbing of Georgia's First President's Son
Giorgi Sologashvili, one of five individuals detained for their suspected involvement in the stabbing of Tsotne Gamsakhurdia, the son of the first president of Georgia Zviad Gamsakhurdia last week, has admitted to stabbing Gamsakhurdia, claiming however that it was not the attempted premeditated murder, with which he has been charged by the prosecutor’s office.
The detainee says that there was a verbal conflict between him and Gamsakhurdia at the event they attended together, and after leaving the event, the son of Georgia's first President “absolutely unexpectedly slapped him," so he took out a knife and stabbed him "in response.”
Sologashvili and three others, Petre Kuparadze, Kakha Chkhetiani and Tato Garibashvili, were sent to pretrial detention yesterday for the incident, while Tornike Kvatadze was not taken into custody.
The trial date has been scheduled for February.
The health condition of Gamsakhurdia remains critical after his being wounded on December 20.
