Georgia Ranks 41st in Human Freedom Index 2019
Out of 162 countries, Georgia was ranked 41st (with 7.74 points) by the Human Freedom Index of the Year 2019. On a scale of 0 to 10 points, 10 represents more freedom.
The Human Freedom Index (HFI) is the most comprehensive freedom index that builds on a multiyear program of research and discussions held in Europe and North America, involving scholars from a myriad of disciplines.
The HFI presents a broad measure of human freedom, understood as the absence of coercive constraint. This annual index uses 76 distinct indicators of personal and economic freedom in the areas that include but are not limited to: the rule of law; security and safety; religion; expression and information; identity and relationships; freedom to trade internationally, and more.
The jurisdictions that took the top 10 places were that of New Zealand, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Canada, Australia, Denmark and Luxembourg (tied in 6th place), Finland and Germany (tied in 8th place), and Ireland. Out of 10 regions, the highest levels of freedom pursuant to the Human Freedom Index are in North America (Canada and the United States), Western Europe and East Asia. The lowest levels are in the Middle East and North Africa, sub-Saharan Africa, and South Asia.
A central purpose of this report is to paint a broad yet reasonably accurate picture of the extent of overall freedom in the world. This research could also aid one to more objectively observe the complex ways in which various freedoms- be they economic or civil- interact with one another.
