First President’s Injured Son’s Family Issues a Statement
Tsotne Gamsakhurdia's family has issued a statement claiming that the ‘inaccurate’ media reports aim to discredit him.
“The stories in the media claim that Tsotne Gamsakhurdia was aggressive towards the accused from the beginning, and that they were trying to neutralize the situation. We wish to clarify to the public that this version belongs solely to the accused, and that there is no evidence from witnesses in the case, who would confirm that Tsotne Gamsakhurdia was the initiator of the conflict.
We strongly believe that such media stories are knowingly misleading the public into reproaching Tsotne Gamsakhurdia. Knowing that Tsotne is fighting for his life and cannot comment on the situation, unapologetically portraying the accused side’s version as true, does not fit the journalistic standards and goes beyond elementary moral values.
We call on the media to cover the topic as objectively as possible. We once again thank the public for their empathy and attention, and we hope that such misunderstanding will be avoided in the future, ”the statement reads.
Gamsakhurdia’s condition remains serious after being wounded in Tbilisi last Thursday.
