Georgian President to Issue Pardon Act for Christmas
The President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili will issue a pardon act for Christmas after a several-month moratorium on acts of amnesty, the President’s press office says.
Zurabishvili earlier declared a moratorium on pardoning prisoners in September, following turmoil surrounding the pardon of inmates convicted for premeditated homicide.
It is unknown if the list will include Archbishop Giorgi Mamaladze.
The Holy Synod requested the President release the Archbishop on November 8.
Mamaladze was detained in September 2017 for allegedly plotting the murder of a high-ranking clergy member of the Georgian Orthodox Church and sentenced to 9 years of imprisonment, as he was found guilty by the Tbilisi City Court.
