Patriarch Ilia II Receives the Family of Vazha Gaprindashvili

The recently-freed Georgia doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili and his family were received by Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness, and Beatitude Ilia II. The information and photos capturing the meeting were published on Facebook by Bishop Iakob of Bodbe.
“Today the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II received Doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili with his family and close friends,” reads the Facebook post of Bishop Iakob.

Dr. Gaprindashvili once again expressed his gratitude to everyone who participated in his release.

Doctor Gaprindashvili was illegally detained on November 9 in the region of Akhalgori. On December 20, the Court of the ‘Leningori region’ charged the Georgian doctor with illegally crossing the so-called border and sentenced him to one year and nine months in prison.  On December 28, he was freed. Report by Sputnik-Ossetia claims that Dr. Gaprindashvili was pardoned by the de-facto President of occupied South Ossetia, Anatoly Bibilov.
